Earl Pearson Jr. Finishes 9th and Sets New World 100 Fast Time Record, Heads to Georgia for Two Events This Weekend

ARCHDALE, NC (September 8, 2008)- Earl Pearson Jr. and the Bobby Labonte Racing Team competed at Eldora Speedway in the famous World 100 event in Rossburg, OH. Earl, the 2006 World 100 winner and the winner of this years World of Outlaws sanctioned event at Eldora Speedway in July headed to the famous race track with confidence that he would be a contender for his second World 100 victory in the past three years.  On Friday nights qualifying action Earl would set a new World 100 qualifying lap of 15.350 to best the 175 drivers that attempted to qualify for the event. Earl would draw a six which would place him 6th in the first heat race. Earl would battle hard to come home third in his heat race earning a 13th starting position for the 100-lap feature event. In the feature Earl would show how strong his car was by advancing into the top 5 by lap 25. Earl would continue to march through the field getting to 3rd place and would battle with Jimmy Owens and Shane Clanton for the top spot before passing Owens on lap 72 for second place. Earl would slowly close in on Shane Clanton for the lead and was in striking distance on lap 82 when Earl's right front tire went flat bringing out the race's first caution. After changing the tire would restart at the rear of the field having to pass the lapped cars before the final laps wound down with Earl finishing 9th in the final run down. Earl was disappointed with the finish knowing he had the car to win the event.

"Man my car was really good and I could run anywhere, bottom, top and really fast in the middle groove. I was closing in on Clanton and had a plan on where I was going to try and pass him when either I ran over something or the right front bumper piece broke off from dragging the track and cut my right front tire down. I really felt like I had the car to win coming from 13th like I did. Just bad luck I guess. It was great to set a new World 100 record and I have to thank my crew for a great car all weekend", stated Earl.

This weekend Earl will race close to home in South Georgia in a pair of O'Reilly Southern All Stars sanctioned events. On Friday September 12th Earl will travel to Swainsboro Raceway in Swainsboro, GA for a 50-lap $5,000 to win feature event. Then on Saturday September 13th Earl will compete at Screven Motor Speedway in Sylvania, GA for a 50-lap $10,000 to win feature event. Both events are close to Earl's hometown of Jacksonville, FL and gives him a rare opportunity to race close for family and friends during the racing season.
