ARCHDALE, NC (July 9, 2008)- Earl Pearson Jr. and the Bobby Labonte Racing Team picked up their second win of the season on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series this past weekend in Tennessee. Earl driving the Bobby Labonte owned Mastersbilt Chassis sponsored by Lucas Oil and Lifelong Locks earned his first ever win at Volunteer Speedway in Bulls Gap, TN this past Saturday night starting 7th in the feature event and passing Jimmy Owens with eight laps remaining and cruised to the victory. "It feels great to finally get a win here at Volunteer Speedway. Everyone knows that when you race here the drivers to beat are Scott Bloomquist and Jimmy Owens. Scott and Jimmy really dominate at this place so to beat those guys here is very satisfying for our team. I have to thank my crew Randall, Keith and Matt for giving me a great car. I just ran my race and the car got better the longer we ran and once I got the lead no one was going to catch us then. This car was just awesome tonight", stated Earl.
Earl competed in three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned events over the weekend and earned three top five finishes, one win and two fast time awards. On Thursday July 3rd Earl competed in Zanesville, OH at Muskingum County Speedway setting fast time among the 36 drivers entered. Earl would suffer mechanical problems in his heat race and had to use a provisional starting spot for the feature event. Earl started 23rd in the feature and advanced into the top five to finish a strong 3rd place in the final run down earning the PBM Hard Charger Award for advancing the most positions in the feature. After winning Saturday nights Lucas Oil sanctioned event at Volunteer Speedway Earl traveled to the fast Tazewell Speedway in Tazewell, TN for the third Lucas Oil sanctioned event of the weekend. Earl again would set fast time turning a blistering lap of 11.452 seconds around the fast 1/3 mile high banked track. Earl would finish second in his race to earn the 4th starting position for the feature and maintained in the top five the entire feature event finishing 5th in the final run down. Earl regained the lead in the series national point's standings and now leads Steve Casebolt by 240 points.
Earl and the team will travel to a pair of Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned events this coming weekend. On Friday July 11th Earl will compete in Alabama at North Alabama Speedway for a $7,000 to win sanctioned event. Then on Saturday July 12th Earl will compete at the Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi for a $10,000 to win sanctioned event. Both events will count towards the series national point's standings as Earl continues his quest for five national dirt late model touring championships in a row.
